Zipaquira

Not far from Bogotá is the town of Zipaquirá, which houses an impressive sight. In one of the salt mines, which are located around Zipaquirá, there is the so-called Salt Cathedral, a church completely made of salt in 3 caves. The first church was opened here in 1954. It is three-aisled and 120 meters long. Inside are several monumental crosses, small chapels with Madonna statues and a way of the cross.
The Salt Cathedral can only be visited as part of a guided tour. Within the church, one can also distance oneself from the group and stay longer in the impressive building.
