El Totumo is the name of the mud volcano near Cartagena. With a height of 15m, it is the smallest volcano in Colombia. The mud bath in its crater is said to be healing. 10 to 15 people can find space in its small crater at the same time. Afterwards, a nearby lake offers the opportunity to wash off the mud. A visit as a day trip from Cartagena is definitely recommended!
A cruise on the Galapagos Islands is an experience that no one will quickly forget! The fauna is unique: iguanas, turtles, blue-footed boobies, flamingos, albatrosses, penguins, sea lions, sharks, rays and many species of fish can be admired. The animals are very tame and not afraid of humans. You can approach carefree, but you should keep a distance of one meter. This experience can probably not be found anywhere else!
If you like baroque churches, you are in good hands in Quito. There are several impressive churches in the old town alone. The Iglesia de la Compañia de Jesus is the most ornate and is described by the Quiteños as the most beautiful church in the country. The cathedral in the main square contains some masterpieces – you can see a painting of the Last Supper, where the disciples dine on guinea pigs. Other religious buildings worth seeing are the church and monastery of San Francisco and the Iglesia de Santo Domingo.
We can now offer an exciting journey through the highlands of Ecuador. With the help of my partner in Quito, we chose the best route to the highlights. We visit the two most beautiful cities in the country, Quito and Cuenca. Moreover we will visit several volcanoes, including the Cotopaxi and the Chimborazo, the two highest mountains in Ecuador. You can even descend into the crater of the extinct Quilotoa.
